M6 closed at Thelwall Viaduct after multi-vehicle accident
The northbound carriageway is currently shut, with traffic backing up for miles
The M6 has been closed in Cheshire after a multi-vehicle accident.
It's closed northbound at Junction 21 near Thelwall. Emergency crews say they have been dealing with an accident involving two lorries and two cars.
They were called to the carriageway at around 7.48 this morning.
A full closure is in place northbound, and the southbound was also closed for a time to allow an air ambulance to land.
Police have confirmed that a person has been rushed to hospital with a serious chest injurie, and others have also been treated.
In an update, Cheshire Police said: "Officers attended the scene and found the collision involved two HGVs, a white Ford Zetec and a white Ford Kuga.
"Fire and ambulance were called to the scene and the road was closed in both directions to allow air ambulance to land.
"One person has sustained a serious chest injury as a result of the collision, they have been taken to hospital via air ambulance. A number of other casualties have been taken to hospital by paramedics."
Traffic is backing up for a number of miles, and drivers are being told to avoid the whole area.
