Local MP's Show Transport Minister Need For Mottram By-Pass

Stalybridge and Hyde MP Jonathan Reynolds, and High Peak MP Andrew Bingham today met with Transport Minister Andrew Jones MP at a notorious busy junction in Hollingworth to press the case for the Mottram By-pass.

Both MP’s have campaigned on the issue since elected in 2010, and brought the Minister to the junction of the Gun Inn in Hollingworth this morning to show him the traffic gridlock, and why a By-pass is desperately needed.

The Government has recently indicated support for the Mottram By-pass proposal, and both Mr Reynolds and Mr Bingham were keen to make sure the issue stays at the top of the Government’s agenda.

The visit came after a debate in the House of Commons on the adequacy of roads and transport infrastructure around Glossop and the High Peak, in which both Mr Reynolds and Mr Bingham spoke.

Following the visit, Mr Reynolds said: “I believe that one of the most important decisions in the previous Parliament was the decision to proceed with the Mottram By-pass, something I have constantly campaigned for since being elected as MP in 2010, and as a councillor for Longdendale before that.

"The By-pass will be of huge benefit to my constituents and the local economy, and so I am glad the Minister took the time to visit today. Hopefully now he has seen first-hand the backlog of traffic and unacceptable congestion that residents and commuters suffer with every day he is fully aware of the need for the Mottram By-pass, and I will continue to press the Government to ensure it happens.”
