People from across Levenshulme and Longsight are gathering together for a solidarity and strength walk through Crowcroft Park tonight after a 12-year-old girl was raped there earlier this month.

The walk will take place at 9pm, with everyone meeting from 8.45pm and will start at the main entrance of the park on Stockport Road in an attempt for the local community to “take back the night” and make the area feel safer for all.

It's hoped this will ignite change in the area and members of the community are asking everyone to come together to pay respect to all victims of rape and other crimes while also highlighting the need for safety in their neighbourhood.

The Levenshulme Community Association are branding this as a peaceful walk through the park and have stressed: “no banners, placards or verbal protests” in order to further enforce the point of solidarity in the neighbourhood as they do not want to disturb the local residents.

They've posted on their website: “We all have the right to walk our streets without fear and hope this small gesture will inspire change.”

It's hoped the walk will unite the area and highlight the need for local authorities and police to focus more on the rise of crime.
