A woman and a teenager have been left injured after a gang of men broke into a family home in Leigh, wearing balaclavas and wielding weapons.

On Wednesday 1 September 2021, at around 11.20pm, police were called to reports of an aggravated burglary which occurred between 11.10pm and 11.20pm on Hill Crest Avenue in Leigh.

Enquiries have established that four men entered the property and attacked a 41-year-old man and a 41-year-old woman who were home at the time.

A further four individuals who were present at the time, pushed the offenders out of the property before they made off empty handed down the road, turning right on Wigan Road.

Emergency services attended and the woman was treated by paramedics at the scene for a head injury. A 17-year-old girl received treatment for a fractured ankle which she injured during the commotion of the incident.

No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing.

Detective Constable Kat Tyldesley, of GMP's Wigan division, said: "This is a terrifying incident in which a number of armed men attacked a family in their own home.

"We are following all available lines of enquiry to identify these offenders as quickly as possible and ensure they are brought to justice.

"If you have any information at all which could assist police in their investigation, please do not hesitate to get in contact."
