Jonathan Reynolds Quits Front Bench Role

Published 6th Jan 2016

Labour minister and MP for Stalybridge and Hyde Jonathan Reynolds has resigned from his front bench role as Shadow Rail Minister in the wake of a party reshuffle by Jeremy Corbyn.

Mr Reynolds said he wanted to take part in a debate about the future of the Labour party as a backbencher.

He also criticised the decision to sack former shadow Europe minister Pat McFadden over comments regarding terrorism.

In a letter to Mr Corbyn, which he posted on his Facebook Page this morning and tweeted out - he said:

LISTEN: Our Chief Reporter Michelle Livesey speaks to Mr Reynolds about his decision to stand down:

Mr Reynolds is the first person to voluntarily step down after the protracted reshuffle.
