Jalal Uddin murder- police make an arrest
21 year-old taken into custody.
Police investigating the murder of a 64 year-old religious leader on his way home from a mosque have arrested a 21-year-old man.
Jalal Uddin was found with head injuries in a children's play area in Rochdale, Greater Manchester, after being attacked on February 18th.
He was taken to hospital from the scene in South Street, Wardleworth, but died a short time later.
On Thursday, the suspect was detained on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder after officers carried out three warrants in the Rochdale area.
Superintendent Alistair Mallen, of Greater Manchester Police, said: Our
investigation into the murder of Jalal remains ongoing and this morning we have arrested a 21-year-old man who will be questioned by detectives later today.
“I would again like to thank the community for their patience and support
whilst we carry out our inquiries and continue to appeal for any witnesses who may have been in the South Street area at the time of the attack to please contact police.''
Last week, Mohammed Hussain Syeedy, 21, of Ramsay Street, Rochdale, appeared in court after he was charged with murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
A 17-year-old boy who was arrested on suspicion of murder has been bailed until April 20 pending further inquiries.
