There's a stark reminder to women ... cervical screening saves lives!!!
There's a stark reminder to women ... cervical screening saves lives!!!
It's Cervical Screening Awareness Week and research has revealed three quarters of cervical cancers are prevented by smears but a quarter of women miss their tests.
It's prompted survivors and nurses to issue warnings on our radio station.
Gemma-Louise Quinton, who was diagnosed after her first smear test, said:
"It can save your life, it saved my life. If I didn't go and have my smear test, I don't think I'd be here right now.
"Loads of girls that I know put their smear test off ...
"Most of the time women say that they're embarrassed but a nurse has seen it all and they genuinely don't care
"Some women say that they're scared it'll hurt ... it's uncomfortable but it does not hurt and it's over very quick.
"Everybody I speak to who goes and gets a smear test done says "It wasn't as bad as what I thought it was" ...
"If that's you - tell all the women in your family, tell your sister, tell your mum, tell your nana, tell your friends."
