Greater Manchester Police 'Hacked'
Greater Manchester Police is investigating how their website was apparantly taken down by a hacker.
The site www.gmp.police.uk was offline from 8pm until the service was restored a short time later.
The hacker who claimed to be in Lithuania, tweeted a menacing message: “Disclose that I was the one who knocked your site or I will not stop here.”
The same account holder also claimed to have taken down the websites of Manchester city council and Manchester airport, but that hasn't been verified.
GMP tweeted that there had been some “technical issues” and GMP spokesman said they are treating it as a malicious attempt to disrupt services.
The force was reassuring the public that confidential information could not be accessed and said the website is not connected to any other system.
