ASICS Manchester Marathon takes place on Sunday 7 April, meaning roads in Trafford will be temporarily closed to traffic as they become part of the marathon route.

Roads will be closed and reopened at different times during the day, with the earliest and latest closures from 5am up until 6pm.

The closures will mean all traffic has to find alternative routes and public transport will be busier than usual.

Journey times are likely to take longer so it’s recommended that people plan ahead if they’re taking part in or spectating the event, or travelling in the area on the day.

A full list of road closures can be found here**.**

Spectator Hotspots

Experience over the past few years has shown that some locations are spectator hotspots. We recommend that you do not attempt to drive to these vibrant areas, instead we suggest you walk to them or use the tram.

• Talbot Road (approach to finish)

• Brooklands Road / Marsland Road / Hope Road

• Timperley Village

• Altrincham

A56

The A56 southbound will be closed:

• 05:00 – 11:30 Bridgewater Way to White City Way

• 05:00 – 11:30 White City Way to Thomas Street

• 11:30 – 16:00 Thomas Street to Bridgewater Street

• 05:00 – 11:30 Bridgewater Street to Edge Lane

• 08:00 – 12:00 Edge Lane to Ashfield Road

The A56 northbound will only be closed:

• 05:00 – 11:30 Edge Lane to White City Way

• 09:00 – 14:30 Stamford Brook Road to Fownhope Road

• 11:30 – 16:00 Edge Lane to Davyhulme Road East

The A56 will be closed in both directions:

• 05:00 – 11:30 Davyhulme Road East to Edge Lane

• 09:00 – 14:30 Fownhope Road to Marsland Road (Washway Road)

BEST ADVICE

If you need to use the A56 southbound, use the outer diversion route, A5103 Princess Road (Princess Parkway) to avoid major disruption to your journey. If you need to access the city during the northbound closure, use A5181 Barton Road and then B5211 Barton Dock Road to the A57 and then follow signs for the city, alternatively after 10:35 when Barton Road will be closed at Kingsway, use Edge Lane to access A5103 Princess Road.

M60

M60 Junction 7 (07.00 – 12.30)

There is no exit from the M60 at junction 7 in either direction. Access on and off the M60 at junction 7 will be restricted. Traffic wishing to travel anticlockwise will be directed north on the M60 from junction 7 to junction 8 where they can then use the slip roads to rejoin the M60 to travel south. Traffic travelling in both directions that wish to leave the M60 at junction 7 will need to leave at junction 6 or junction 9 dependent on their destination, or use the M56 to access areas around Altrincham.
