GMP appeal for witnesses following city centre rape

Police investigating a rape at a Manchester city centre nightclub continue to appeal for information.

Shortly before 2.45am on Sunday, 29 May 2016, officers were called to Ark Nightclub on Whitworth Street to a report that an 18-year-old woman had been raped inside the venue.

An investigation was launched by GMP’s Serious Sexual Offences Unit and a 34-year-old man was been arrested on suspicion of rape..

He was released on bail pending further enquiries until 27th October 2016.

Detective Constable Dave Jones, from GMP’s Serious Sexual Offences Unit, said: “We currently have one man on bail and our investigation continues.

“The club was very busy that night with a large number of people attending to see Oxide and Neutrino perform. I would like to continue to urge anyone who might have any information about that night to please come forward.

“Our specially trained officers are continuing to offer support to the victim, who has shown tremendous courage throughout our enquiries and I would like to pay tribute to her for that.”
