Former Manchester United footballer Gary Neville has reportedly offered to let a group of homeless people stay in a building he owns.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A campaign group known as the Manchester Angels have been staying at the Stock Exchange building on Norfolk Street since Saturday and have now announced that Neville has given them permission to stay over winter.
The group posted on Facebook saying:
“I'm crying... Just go off the phone to ... He's letting us stay for a few months over the winter period and he's gonna help us with intervention. I'm shaking here.”
Neville and other former United player Ryan Giggs had their planning permission granted earlier this year to turn the Stock Exchange into a 35-bedroom luxury hotel complete with a gym, spa, roof terrace and a restaurant.
Neville has reportedly stated that he has been offering support to homeless people he has seen on the streets of Manchester.
Wesley Hall who leads Manchester Angels told Neville, “Thank you so much – you don’t understand what you have done for us."
The activists say they can now act on their plan to provide a safe place for homeless people including hot food, health checkups, benefit advice, help with securing permanent accommodation and now a roof over their heads for winter.
They have named their mission Operation Safe Winter.
