Four people have been arrested after a man was shot in Oldham this week, while another was injured with a knife, in what is believed to have been a targeted attack.

Police were called to Royal Oldham Hospital on Wednesday night, where a man had turned up with gunshot wounds.

Officers also attended a scene in Busk Road, where another man was found with what are described as "serious knife wounds".

A 28-year-old man is in hospital and has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

Police also arrested a 22-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder, and he remains in hospital while he is treated for his injuries.

Detectives are also questioning two women in their 20s on suspicion of assisting and offender.

Detective Inspector Alex Wilkinson from our Major Incident Team tasked with the investigation said; “Although our enquiries are still in its early stages, we are appealing to the public for further information and details from this week to help us formulate what exactly happened in the moments leading up to two people becoming seriously injured.

“I understand the concern this will have raised around the areas but want to provide reassurance we are conducting regular patrols, searching through hours of CCTV and making progress to make sure we find all those responsible and will be relentless until we do so.

“Our work will continue this weekend and next week but recent intelligence suggests it was a targeted attack."
