Former soldier from Manchester backs calls for better help for veterans

New study suggests veterans are becoming dependant on charities

Calls for veterans to be given better support once they've left the army - have been backed by a former solider from Manchester who ended up in prison.

The support group Care After Combat says too many veterans are becoming dependant on charities.

There’s over 2000 charities in the UK which help ex-servicemen and women, Care After Combat claim that in many cases veterans aren’t accessing the right support and simply becoming over-reliant on them.

Gary Eastwood spent 11 years in the army turned to crime once he was discharged. He was sent to prison after running an online company that specialised in providing fake documents.

He’s now urging veterans to seek out the right support when being reintroduced to civilian life.
