Firefighters tackle blaze at industrial unit in East Manchester

Dozens of firefighters have spent Tuesday tackling a major blaze at a group of storage units in East Manchester.

The fire broke out just after midnight, at an industrial site in Newton Heath, close to the Etihad Stadium.

People living nearby were urged to keep their windows and doors closed, while 12 crews worked to douse the flames.

Officers were using hoses to draw water from the Rochdale Canal, hosing down the flames from a cherry picker

Crews have said they could be on the scene for 'some time' while they isolate the final pockets of flames, but that the actual fire is now well under control.
