The family of an 86 year-old former merchant seaman who died after a collision in Swinton has paid tribute to him.

Shortly after 7.30pm on Saturday police were called to Worsley Road to reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and a van.

Officers attended and found a man, who has been formally identified as Maurice Brady, with number of injuries. He was taken to hospital where he sadly died.

Paying tribute to him, his family said: “He will be sadly missed by all his family and friends. He was an ex-merchant seaman who lived all his life in Salford.

“His ability to talk to anyone and regale his stories meant he had many friends in the local pubs, who looked out for him in his later years, for which we are very grateful. He is now on his final voyage.”

Sergeant Helen Hallworth of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “The family and friends of Maurice have been left devastated by this tragic loss.

“My thoughts are with them and we have specially-trained officers supporting them at this difficult time.

“His family are desperate for answers and I am urging anyone who has any information that may assist our investigation, please contact officers at the Serious Collision Investigation Unit.

“We are particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have dash-cam footage of the incident.”
