A former police detective, who exposed child sexual abuse in Rochdale nearly a decade ago, is now launching a dedicated helpline for adult survivors of CSE.
Maggie Oliver recently set up a Foundation in her name after quitting Greater Manchester Police in late 2012 in order to expose the now infamous Rochdale Grooming Scandal.
In past 12 months the charity has already helped more than 2,000 adult survivors of child sexual abuse - but it's now hoped a new dedicated helpline staffed by an army of volunteers will allow more victims to come forward.
'Pain Into Power' will be open to survivors right across the UK of all faiths and backgrounds to try and provide a safe place to be heard.
It will aim to provide essential support to more survivors whose trauma and mental health has been even further affected by this pandemic.
'It was never their fault'
Speaking to us exclusively, Maggie Oliver told us some of those who are calling are speaking about their trauma for the first time: "We were approached by a lady who was 70-years-old and she has never spoken about her abuse in her whole life. We gave her the courage and she feels as though it's transformed her life."
"To know that they wont be judged or written off as having made choices that led to the abuse - it was never their fault - survivors need to hear somebody who believes that and will help them move forward."
"Just being heard can be life changing. Many don't get what is called their 'day in court' as so many incidents of sexual abuse never lead to a criminal prosecution. That can lead to a victim feeling abandoned and we're trying to put that right."
