Sneak thief drives off from car wash in Bury

Published 1st Nov 2016

Police have released CCTV footage after a thief drove off in a vehicle that had been parked on a car wash forecourt in Bury.

On Tuesday 11 October 2016, a blue Audi A5 was parked at a car wash on Walshaw Road to receive a valet service.

Shortly after 4.40pm, police were called after a man climbed into the premises via the adjoining fence, got into the driver’s seat of the Audi and drove off.

Detective Sergeant Stuart Barker, of GMP’s Bury borough, said: “This was an opportunist theft where the offender has studied the vehicles in the car wash, before climbing into the yard, getting behind the wheel of an expensive vehicle and driving off.

“I am appealing to anyone who recognises the man shown in the CCTV footage, or anyone who has seen the car or has information on its whereabouts, to please get in touch.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 and quote the reference number 1509 of 20/10/16, or contact the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
