A man's escaped with thousands of pounds after calmly sitting behind the counter of a Bureau De Change in Asda in Trafford and helping himself.

Police have released CCTV footage of the incident.

At 3.45pm on Wednesday 29 July 2015, police were called following reports a large amount of money had been stolen by a man from a currency kiosk at Asda based at Trafford Park.

The offender is described as Asian, in his mid 20s/30s, of slim build, was smartly dressed, wore a light coloured shirt, black jacket and glasses.

An investigation has been launched and a 22-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud. She has been bailed until 21 September 2015.

Detective Constable Simon Johnson said: “We have obtained CCTV footage of a man, who does not work at the store, entering the kiosk and acting in a suspicious manner. A substantial amount of cash was taken and we are keen to find the person who is responsible.

“I would ask people to take time to look at the CCTV footage and bear in mind that the offender may be using some form of disguise to obscure his appearance. Anyone who may recognise the person in the footage is asked to contact us as soon as possible. The company who owns the kiosk have put forward a reward of £2000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for this crime.”

Anyone with information should phone police on 0161 856 9168 or 0161 856 7655 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
