Salford Junior Football Club is thanking the community of Salford and everyone else who has helped support it in the aftermath of a vandal attack which caused throusands of pounds worth of damage.

Paint was thrown, windows were smashed and goal posts were broken in the attack earlier this month.

Gary Lineker saw photos of the devastation on twitter and donated ÂŁ1000 to a fundraising appeal to help get the club back on track.

That prompted other businesses and individuals to chip in and raise the ÂŁ6k target to repair and rebuild the changing rooms.

Salford-based communications specialist The Nycomm Group was one of those to chip in.

Club Welfare Officer and Coach, Mark Crossley, thanked all who have supported the club including Nycomm as well as former soccer star Gary Lineker who donated too.

Mark also works at Nycomm in IT Development and Support and said: “We have a good committee and good parents around us, but everyone is devastated. The younger kids, those aged five, six and seven, they are the ones that have been hit the hardest.”

Nycomm Director David Bennett says the company plays an active role in the local community and had no hesitation in helping out. “Nycomm is a large local employer with a community spirited ethos and we just hope the club gets back on its feet very soon,” he emphasised. “We are delighted to help the club achieve its target.”

The club, founded in 2015, runs 16 junior teams, for boys and girls, aged between five and 12, and is based at the playing fields off Louisa Street in Walkden
