City fans urged to spare a few minutes ahead of kick off to learn life saving skills
Paramedics from the North West Ambulance Service will be offering CPR training to supporters at the Etihad today
It's hoped hundreds of Manchester City fans could leave today's match against Burnley, not just with a win - but with lifesaving skills as well.
Paramedics from the North West Ambulance Service will be in the Entertainment Centre in City Square to offer free CPR training for supporters.
It comes just days after Restart A Heart Day, when it was revealed more than a third of people in Greater Manchester do not know what to do if someone suffers a cardiac arrest.
David McNally - Community Engagement and Resuscitation Manager in the Greater Manchester area - said:
"This is about raising awareness, we'r enot making people paramedics. It's about making people aware to have a go, and not be afraid to actually attempt CPR. It keeps the vital organs alive until we can arrive. It gives that patient a fighting chance of survival, and makes up a chance of survival. People in homes, in communities, in clubs, can make that difference.
"Actually attempting CPR is key to survival. When somebody has that cardiac arrest, they're having the worst day ever. By somebody attempting something, it's going to have one of two outcomes. They'll give a positive outcome and the patient will survive, or it will the family something by showing them everything was done to help their family member.
"Man City are offering their opportunity to make a difference to somebody's life. They'll also get a group of fans who'll go away with a lifesaving skill that, hopefully, they will never need, but if they do they will be able to save lives."
Paramedics will be in City Square ahead of the match where they will offer basic life support skills training. They will also run a demonstration on the City Square stage, and will be offering potential lifesavers the chance to win prizes in a competition.
