Bolton have been given more time to sort out financial affairs by a judge in a specialist court.

Judge Clive Jones adjourned an application to wind up the club at an Insolvency and Companies Court hearing in London on Wednesday.

The judge has heard that Bolton, who have recently been relegated from EFL Championship into football's third tier, owe the taxman more than £1 million.

He said the case would be reconsidered on May 22.

A lawyer representing tax officials said Bolton had given notice of an intention to appoint an administrator.

The judge said he would adjourn to see if an administrator was appointed.

Administration looms

Chairman Ken Anderson earlier said he had been left with no choice other than to place the club in administration after the proposed takeover by Laurence Bassini failed to materialise due to the former Watford owner's failure to provide proof of funding.

"This had been a massive disappointment to me as I understand the serious implications administration will bring to the businesses. But I have been left with no alternative, as this course of action will preserve the football club and all of its proud history.''

The cash-strapped club were unable to fulfil their final home league game of the season against Brentford after the players went on strike in protest at unpaid wages.

Fans hope for fresh start

Bolton supporters outside the stadium told Hits Radio they're "frustrated" and "disheartened" that the ongoing financial problems at the club still haven't reached a resolution, leaving them in limbo.

Speaking to our reporter outside the University of Bolton stadium fans spoke of their hope for a fresh start so the club can rebuild.
