Greater Manchester Police launch series of events.
Former Great British athlete, wheelchair fencer and disability advocate Adrian Derbyshire, has been helping to launch Greater Manchester hate crime awareness week today by speaking of his experiences.
The campaign launch at the Manchester Art Gallery highlighted the issue with various speakers sharing their experiences of being victims of hate crime.
Manchester city council and GMP say they’re determined to work together to tackle the issue.
This week sees a host of activities including a craft and photography session by the LGBT Foundation along with workshops and performances from the Factory Youth Zone.
Other events outside the city centre include:
Training to Bolton business, community groups and mosques, hate crime stands set up in Trafford as well as support from Manchester United’s MUFC Foundation.
There are also third party reporting centres in Oldham aimed at encouraging victims to come forward.
In Salford a school toolkit will be running alongside engagement with the Jewish community in a bid to address anti-Semitism across the city.
Greater Manchester Mayor and Police and Crime Commissioner Tony Lloyd said, “Hate crime devastates lives and divides communities. It has no place in Greater Manchester, a region that celebrates diversity and promotes tolerance and inclusivity”
