Two people taken to hospital in family dog attack in Woodchurch
The dog had inflicted multiple injuries on a man and a woman at the house
Two people have been taken to hospital protecting their children from an attack by their family's dog.
Officers from Merseyside Police were alerted to an incident taking place at a property on Sunflower Close in Woodchurch just before midnight on Saturday (February 15th).
When responders arrived at the scene, they found the dog attacking a woman, whilst a man was left with multiple injured after being bitten by the hound.
Three children were also in the house while the attack was taking place, but were able to be taken away from the scene and kept in a separate room.
The dog was eventually brought under control and removed from the house, and has since been handed over to Merseyside Police.
The dog's breed has yet to be established by officers, but the force have said the dog will be humanely destroyed.
The two people who were left injured as a result of the attack were taken to hospital for their injuries, which have since been deemed not to be life-threatening.
Speaking on the case, Chief Inspector Dave Atkinson from Merseyside Police said the cause of the attack has already been established.
"It is believed that the children were playing hide and seek in the house when the dog started to growl at them," Atkinson said. "The male occupant tried to remove the dog, which then attacked him. When the woman owner tried to stop the dog she too was attacked.
"The dog in this property was dangerously out of control, despite this our officers went in and bravely faced the situation before them, stopping the continuing attack and ensuring the children were safe before managing to contain the dog and remove it from the property.
"They should be commended for their actions which prevented further serious injuries and meant that the ambulance service could get into the address to provide medical support to the injured parties before taking them to hospital."
