A man has been charged following a knife attack in a flat in Liverpool on Saturday.

Emergency services were called to Upper Parliament Street in Toxteth at around 09:45am.

A man was taken to hospital with serious injuries to his head and hands, where he remains in a stable condition.

52-year-old Allan John Paris was arrested and has been charged with wounding with intent.

Detective Chief Inspector Steve Ball of Merseyside Police said: “The use of knives to inflict serious injury and worse in Merseyside is simply not acceptable.

The carrying and use of knives can have tragic consequences, not only for the victim and their family but for the offenders involved too.

"Not only do those carrying knives risk being brought to justice for their crime, they stand a greater risk of becoming a victim of knife crime themselves.

"I would urge people to educate themselves and speak to their children and family members about the dangers of knife crime."
