Investigation underway following fatal crash in St Helens
Leslie Pearce took himself to hospital and died the following day.
Police are appealing for information after a man died following a collision in St Helens last month.
At around 5.50pm on Thursday 19 December, it was reported that a red Ford Fiesta and a black Ford Transit towing a white box trailer were involved in a collision on Burrows Lane.
Both drivers stopped at the scene and there were no serious injuries reported at that time.
Five days later – on Tuesday 24 December – the driver of the Ford Fiesta, 64-year-old Leslie Pearce, self-presented at hospital.
Leslie passed away the following day. A post mortem will be carried out to determine the cause of death.
His family have issued the following tribute: “My dad was the best dad a girl could ever wish for. His death has left a hole in our family that can never be filled. He was an amazing brother and grandad. He was kind and caring and always there if he was ever needed.”
Officers are investigating the collision and appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
Detective Sergeant Andy Roper from our Matrix Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “Our thoughts and condolences are with Leslie’s family and they are being supported by our specially trained liaison officers.
“We have launched an investigation into his death and we are determined to get answers for the family.
“I understand that an off-duty technician from the Ambulance Service may have stopped to assist and I would be grateful if they could make contact with our team so that we can obtain information from them. I also urge anyone who may have witnessed the collision or assisted at the scene at this incident to please contact us.
“Alternatively, if you live in the area or were driving in the vicinity, I ask that you please check your CCTV or dashcam footage for anything that could assist in the investigation the incident.
“Every piece information or footage could be vital in establishing what happened."
