An investigation is underway after an eight-year-old boy has been left with serious injuries after being hit by a car in Liverpool.

Police say it happened at around 3.50pm on the eastbound carriageway of Longmoor Lane near to the junction with Haven Road.

The boy was taken home and later taken to hospital where he was treated for a serious leg injury.

The female driver of the car initially stopped at the scene but neither party spoke to each other or exchanged details and the driver left the scene.

Detective Sergeant Andy Roper said: “A young boy suffered a serious leg injury as a result of a collision with a car and it is important that we investigate the circumstances and speak to the driver.

“We believe it was a medium sized blue car which was being driven by a woman who was described as white, aged in her 50s to 60s, with light brown curly hair and glasses.

“Although the woman initially stopped at the scene no details were exchanged and we would like to speak to her as a matter of urgency.

“We would also ask for any motorists who were in the area who saw the collision or could assist us in tracing the driver to come forward. We are also keen to find anyone who may have dash cam footage with could assist with our enquiries.”
