13 people appear in court over Liverpool and Southport disorder
11 have been remanded in custody, while two youths have been bailed
A total of 13 people have appeared in court over the past two days charged in connection with violent disorder carried out in Southport, Liverpool city centre and Walton.
11 people appeared at Liverpool Magistrates' Court yesterday (Monday 5 August) and a further two today (Tuesday 6 August).
In total, 11 of the 13 people were remanded into custody to appear before Liverpool Crown Court later this month.
Two youths were conditionally bailed.
10 of those who appeared in court pleaded guilty and will be sentenced later this month.
We can also confirm that a 38-year-old man from Southport has been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder, possession of a controlled Class B drug and criminal damage in connection to the disorder in Southport on Tuesday 30 July. He remains in police custody.
The following people have appeared in court over the past two days:
• Derek Drummond, 58, of Pool Street, Liverpool was charged with violent disorder and assaulting an emergency worker in Southport. He pleaded guilty to both counts and was further remanded to appear at Liverpool Crown Court on 29 August to be sentenced
• Declan Geiran, 29, of Kelso Road, Liverpool was charged with violent disorder and arson (to a police vehicle) in Liverpool city centre. He pleaded guilty to both counts and was remanded in custody to appear at Liverpool Crown Court on 30 August for sentencing
• Jimmy Bailey, 45 years, of Station Avenue, Ellesmere Port was charged with violent disorder in Liverpool city centre. He did not enter a plea and was remanded to appear at Liverpool Crown Court on 30 August
• Lloyd Killner, 35 years, of Burton Road, Lincoln was charged with violent disorder in Liverpool city centre. He pleaded not guilty and was remanded to appear at Liverpool Crown Court on 30 August
• Liam James Riley, 41 years, of Walton Road, Kirkdale was charged with violent disorder in Liverpool city centre. He pleaded guilty and was remanded to appear at Liverpool Crown Court on 30 August
• William Nelson Morgan, 69, of Linton Street, Walton was charged with violent disorder and possession of an offensive weapon in Walton. He pleaded guilty to both charges and was remanded to appear at Liverpool Crown Court for sentencing on 29 August
• John O'Malley, 43 years, of Cambridge Gardens in Southport pleaded guilty to violent disorder in Southport and was remanded in custody to appear at Liverpool Crown Court on 29 August for sentencing
• Gareth Metcalfe, 44 years, of Cambridge Gardens, Southport was charged with violent disorder in Southport and was remanded in custody to appear at Liverpool Crown Court on 29 August. He did not enter a plea.
• Adam Wharton, 28 years, of Selwyn Street in Kirkdale, has been charged with burglary with intent to steal at Spellow Library in Walton. He pleaded guilty and was remanded to appear at Liverpool Crown Court for sentencing on 29 August
• Ellis Wharton, 22 years, of Selwyn Street in Kirkdale, has been charged with burglary with intent to steal at Spellow Library in Walton and assaulting an emergency services worker. He pleaded guilty to burglary and not guilty to assault. He was remanded to appear at Liverpool Crown Court on 29 August
• A 14-year-old boy from Liverpool, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was charged with violent disorder at Clayton Square. He pleaded guilty to violent disorder and was bailed on the condition he does not enter the L1, L2 or L3 postcode areas to appear at Liverpool Crown Court on 27 August
• Dylan Carey, 26, of Castle Hill Road, in Hindley, in Greater Manchester, has been charged with violent disorder in connection to the disorder in Southport on Tuesday 30 July. He pleaded guilty and will appear for sentencing at Liverpool Crown Court on August 12.
• A 15-year-old boy, from Toxteth, who can’t be named for legal reasons, has been charged with violent disorder in connection to disorder on Paradise Street in Liverpool city centre. He pleaded guilty and was conditionally bailed to next appear at youth court on September 17.
