Reports of plastic pellets near Skegness Pier and Chapel St Leonards following vessel crash
The collision between a tanker and a cargo ship happened on March 10th
Plastic pellets known as nurdles have reportedly washed up south of Skegness Pier following a collision between two vessels near the Humber Estuary last week.
Other reports around Chapel St Leonards are being investigated.
The Environment Agency advises the pellets are not hazardous - but we're advised not to pick them up so they can be contained, and to report them to the Humber Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre.
Dog walkers are advised to keep animals away from them.
The Lincolnshire Resilience Forum said:
"If you see any of the pellets, or possible pollution along the coast or surrounding areas, please call Humber Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre on 0344 382 0580 or email zone8@hmcg.gov.uk .
"If possible, please provide a ‘What Three Words’ location or a grid reference to assist HM Coastguard to identify the exact location.
"Please do not pick them up because while they are not believed to be hazardous, they need to be contained to restrict the spread of them.
"The LRF has been working with the MCA since the incident, and other agencies, to respond to this and continues to do so now in response to reports of these pellets emerging in Lincolnshire. Plans for clean-up are already underway and will start as soon as possible."
