Humberside police are campaigning to cut down the number of one punch attacks across the region which can lead to serious injury and in some cases even death.

They're working with Paul Spence who himself was punched whilst out in Hull back in 2012.

Now he's published a book for school children which was discussed at a North Lincolnshire school yesterday.

The book was put together with help from the Humber Violence Prevention partnership.

I wouldn't want anybody to go through what I went through

He was at Axholme academy yesterday.

Paul told us: "I wouldn't want anybody to go through what I went through - not only me but my family and all those around me."

"I want to reduce violence and hopefully the books will go a long way to preventing lives from being ruined."

"It wasn't easy the first time I shared the presentation - talking about lived experiences, trauma, suffering - depression isn't easy."

"But I do it because it's important - I do it to save lives."

I was in the depths of despair

"I'm delighted the books have been commissioned - it'll go along way to reducing violence across the region."

"I was in the depths of despair during recovery - suffering with depression."

"I lost my job as an electrical engineer."

"Fortunately I made the right choices during recovery - I really leaned into healthy habits."

"I had emotional intelligence."

Receiving one punch could completely change their lives

"I was resilient and had a good family and friends around me which I'm very thankful for."

We also spoke to Humberside Police and Crime Commissioner Jonathan Evison.

He said; "Actually if you look round the room you'll see a lot of bright individuals - they've got their lives ahead of them."

"But one mistake - receiving one punch could completely change their lives."

"It actually brings the graphic detail of what happens - so it's very very important."
