Today marks the first glimpse of a life-size sculpture of a Lancaster bomber being erected in Lincolnshire.

The 26-meter-long structure, known as ‘On Freedom Wings,’ will soon tower over the landscape next to the A46, between Newark and Norton Disney.

Standing taller than the iconic Angel of the North, which reaches 20 meters in height, this installation will be hard to miss.

The sculpture’s mild-steel frame is designed to develop a rustic finish over time, mimicking the authentic colours of a real Lancaster bomber.

The entire structure is elevated approximately 15 meters above ground, giving the impression that the aircraft is soaring through the sky when viewed from road level.

This afternoon, the last remaining Lancaster Bomber will perform a special flypast and the Bomber County Trust are holding an open day at the premises of Timming Engineering & Construction, who have constructed the structural frame.

Placed high above the horizon, the sculpture aims to honor the legendary aircraft and its role in British history, creating a fitting tribute that will capture the attention of those traveling through the area for years to come.
