Concerns over long term impact regular drinking is having on the health of people in Lincolnshire

An estimated 1 in 6 people in the county binge drink

Figures suggest many heavy drinkers across Lincolnshire are paying a heavy price in terms of their health.

The county is seeing an increase in both treatment for alcoholic related issues and the number of deaths.

Estimates suggest 1 in 6 people regularly drink well above the recommended limit.

Paul from Lincolnshire drank heavily until quitting in 2018 he says before doing so he set out the pros and cons:

"What are the benefits of it, well I can't really think of any. Booze is poison, it' costing you money.

"The benefits of stopping are largely going to be it's going to save you money, it's going to help with longevity of life and I'm going to be focused on a daily basis.

"I can get my health in shape and my fitness in order. What are the drawbacks of quitting booze?"

Paul tells us about his experience:

"It's that drinking everyday was five pints of beer, a bottle of wine and half a bottle of bourbon."

Paul from Lincolnshire told us he managed to turn his life around after giving up drinking.

Recent figures show the numbers who are being treated for alcohol health issues are rising as well as figures for related deaths.

Paul gave up drinking in 2018 he says since he was dry his construction training businesses has benefitted:

"From there my business really propelled from having the focus and the attention that it needed from me.

"Rather than me being focused on mid afternoon so I can get to the pub."
