Person dies after St Helens house fire

It's thought to have been caused by the "unsafe disposal of smokers' materials"

A person has died, after a house fire on Sunday in St Helens.

Fire Crews were sent at 4.41pm, to a mid-terraced house with a fire in the ground-floor front room.

The resident of the house was rescued, and taken to hospital by ambulance, but they have since died as a result of the injuries.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue added: "An investigation found the suspected cause of the fire to be accidental ignition due to the unsafe disposal of smokers’ materials.

"Firefighters and MFRS prevention staff will visit the local area to provide vital fire safety advice and complete home fire safety checks as part of a reassurance campaign in the coming days."
