Man jailed after attacking a woman and two police officers in Kendal
32-year-old Jack Slaven also stole from a local supermarket in January
A man from Blackpool has been jailed for 8 years after an incident in Kendal.
Jack Slaven, 32, was sentenced today (18th March) at Carlisle Crown Court after pleading guilty to attempted robbery, two counts of assault against an emergency worker and theft.
The court heard that Slaven approached his victim, a woman in her late teens, from behind in an unprovoked attack while she had been walking home alone along a river at around 6:15pm on 26th January.
She was then wrestled to the ground by Slaven where he was then on top of her and restrained her. The ordeal lasted for a few minutes before a passer-by then intervened and Slaven fled from the scene.
He then made his way to a local supermarket where he entered the store and stole several items including meat, tins and sweets.
A police investigation was launched and Slaven was arrested later that night.
While being detained in custody he became violent and aggressive and assaulted two police officers, attempting to headbutt and bite them.
Slaven will not be considered for release until he has served five years in prison.
Detective Constable Ewan Breeze said:
“This was a completely unprovoked attack which could easily have resulted in injuries had a member of the public not intervened.
“After attempting to steal his victim’s handbag, Slaven then went on to commit further serious offences and I am glad he was quickly identified and arrested following this.
“The sentence Slaven received today is justified and reflects the gravity of his offences.”
