Man dies after being hit by bus in Wigan

Police have launched a fresh appeal for information following a fatal collision in Wigan.

Officers were called to the junction of Kirkhall Lane and Atherleigh Way in Leigh on Monday (31 March).

Initial enquiries established a double decker bus was travelling down the road when a 69-year-old man, who was a pedestrian, collided with the vehicle.

Emergency services responded and the pedestrian was taken to hospital with life-threatening injurires.

This morning (3 April), the man died as a result of his injuries.

Detective Constable Nick Rhodes from our Serious Collision Investigation Unit said; “Since the incident we have conducted a number of lines of enquiries to establish exactly what happened but are now appealing to anyone who was in the area to please get in touch.

“This can be through a personal eyewitness account, or the submission of dash cam footage to understand the movements leading up to the collision which has sadly saw an elderly man lose his life."
