Cyclist suffers life-threatening injuries in serious collision in Catterall

A cyclist has been left with life-threatening injuries following a serious collision in Catterall.

Lancashire Police said they were alerted to an incident taking place on the A6 close to The Avenue and Old Lancaster Road at around 8:30pm on Friday (January 24th).

When responders arrived at the scene, they found that a man in his 30s had been knocked off his Carrera racing bike by a Peugeot van.

It was established that the van had been travelling north on the A6 when it crashed into the bike, throwing the cyclist into the air before hitting the ground.

Emergency services were called to the scene shortly after police arrived to treat the man, who suffered a "serious head injury".

According to the force, the man was taken to hospital for immediate medical treatment, where he currently remains in a critical condition.

The driver of the van stopped at the scene and is said to be working with police to establish details of what happened.

Speaking on the case, Sergeant Pete Fyans from Lancashire Police said: "This collision has left a man with some very serious injuries, and I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident itself or who has any CCTV, dashcam, Ring doorbell or mobile footage to get in touch.

"I am also keen to speak to anyone who saw the cyclist in the moments prior to the collision."
