'Spirited' Worcester Warriors lose to Bath on Sixways return
The side were beaten 33-19 by current Premiership champions Bath

Worcester Warriors went down fighting in front of a packed out Sixways Stadium to mark their first home game in nearly three years with a 33-19 loss to the reigning Premiership champions Bath.
Thousands of fans watched on as the men's side took to the field to make their first appearance since 24 September 2022 when they beat Newcastle Falcons 39-5 before entering administration just days later.
It took the hosts only three minutes to make themselves back at home, a flowing move up the right edge seeing Matt Kvesic and Siva Naulago combine before finding Lloyd Williams who passed to Louis Brown to score under the posts.
Tiff Eden converted to make it 7-0 and give Warriors a dream start.
On six minutes Bath were reduced to 14 when Ollie Lawrence was sin binned but Warriors failed to make them pay and the visitors hit back.
A spell of pressure near the Warriors line saw Bath’s number seven Guy Pepper power over with 12 minutes on the clock, their captain Ben Spencer converting to bring the scores level.
Back to a full 15 Bath then nudged themselves ahead, a cutting move just inside Worcester’s half on 16 minutes sending Kepueli Tuipulotu through, he offloaded to the supporting Spencer to score but he couldn’t convert his own try to leave it 12-7 to Bath.
Bath were growing into the game but Warriors were hanging tough and after a period of time near the Bath line they scored again.
Tom Seabrook crashing over just before half-time from close range, Eden converted to put them back in front.
Former Warrior and fan favourite Ted Hill then went off injured for Bath, before a penalty kick into touch moments later from the hosts brought an end to the first half, Warriors with a narrow 14-12 lead.
Similar to the first half things didn’t take long to get going again after the interval, Bath producing another neat passing move four minutes in to break through and send Spencer over for his second try of the night.
Sub Tom Dunn then extended Bath’s lead with a converted try from close range to make it 26-14 in the visitors’ favour.
Warriors then saw themselves reduced to 14 on 67 minutes when Hallam Chapman was shown a yellow card and Bath took advantage with Vilikesa Sela going over for another converted score.
Back then came Warriors who rallied to have the final say of the match, Will Trewin scoring to bring the final score to Worcester 19-33 Bath.
Warriors’ next game now is at home to Coventry on 4 October where they’ll kick off their new Champ Rugby season.
