The new Dean of Worcester says it was a 'joyful occasion' getting to be officially installed into the role through a service at Worcester Cathedral.

The Very Reverend Canon Dr Stephen Edwards is now the 47th Dean of Worcester, with a ceremony taking place last Sunday (15 September), to mark the occasion.

Edwards had been the Interim Dean since the retirement of the Very Reverend Peter Atkinson last September, and was appointed by His Majesty The King as to take up the full title in June.

He says he's delighted, and the full process has meant a lot to him.

"There was wonderful music, there was lots of ceremony, but there was a great sense of joy, it was just a really lovely afternoon," he said.

"When I arrived in the cathedral it was full, and I just looked around and looked at the building, and it dawned on me just to how impressive the place is and how important the role is as well.

It's a real privilege to be part of the history of the cathedral, and to be surrounded by so many people was daunting, but I'm just really excited now for the future."

Edwards initially joined the cathedral back in September 2019 as a Residentiary Canon.
