A Herefordshire women's group says International Women's Day is a chance to be proud of all the work women do and to celebrate it.

Events are set to be held across the region and Worcestershire tomorrow (Saturday 8 March) to honour the day.

Rebecca Farkas is part of the Herefordshire Women’s Equality Group (HWEG) who have teamed up with West Mercia Women’s Aid (WMWA) to hold their own event.

She says women's rights have come a long way and a balance between men and women in society is vital.

"Women have made a lot of progress but there's still a lot to fix as well," she said.

"There are things like the gender pay gap, things like male violence against women and girls which impacts a lot of people.

"We believe that making our society more equal is better for all of us and we spend a lot of our time campaigning on issues are not great for women but International Women's Day is a really nice opportunity to celebrate all the great contributions that women do in the world.

The ‘Women at Work’ event will take place at NMITE University’s Skylon Campus.
