Herefordshire and Worcestershire Fire Service complete challenge in memory of former colleague
Fire service commander Stu Crebbin died in March 2021
Over 50 people from Herefordshire and Worcestershire Fire Service have taken part in a fundraiser dedicated to the life of a local fire service commander.
In its 5th year, the Stu Phoenix challenge sees residents, family, friends and colleagues take on the Brecon Beacons 10 Peak Traverse.
The challenge is held in memory of Stu Crebbin, who died in March 2021 after a 12-month battle with cancer.
Spencer Jones is a crew commander at the service, and says it's great they can keep Stu's legacy going through the challenge.
"Stu decided he wanted to turn it into some kind of a positive when he was undergoing his treatment," Spencer said.
"He was a a friend or a colleague to all in the fire service and other services across the country, so in 2020 we ended up doing a 42-mile walk across 10 peaks of the Brecon Beacons in 24 hours.
"After Stu passed away, we decided with the phenomenal support from the fire service staff, colleagues, friends and family, that we would continue on an annual basis to run what we now call Stu's Phoenix challenge.
"It's a walking and talking event really, and that's something Stu was really passionate about because of the fire service being a very demanding job both physically and mentally."
