Heartstopper star Yasmin Finney cast for Doctor Who's 60th anniversary special
She played Elle in Heartstopper
Heartstopper star Yasmin Finney, who played Elle Argent in the hit Netflix series, has been announced to appear in Doctor Who's 60th anniversary special.
The TV show, which is set to celebrate its 60th anniversary in 2023, has confirmed that Yasmin is currently filming scenes for the show, where she plays the character Rose.
Speaking about her new role, Yasmin said: "If anyone would have told eight-year-old Yasmin that one day she’d be part of this iconic show, I would have never in a million years believed them.
"This show has a place in so many people’s hearts, so to be seen as a trans actress by the legend himself Russell, has not only made my year, it’s made my life.
"I cannot wait to begin this journey and for you all to see how Rose blossoms. Get ready."
Meanwhile, Russell T Davies, Doctor Who's showrunner added: "Life on Doctor Who gets brighter and wilder, how can there be another Rose? You’ll find out in 2023, but it’s an absolute joy to welcome Yasmin to the Doctor Who set."
Continuing: "We all fell in love with her in Heartstopper, one of those shows which changes the world – and now Yasmin can change the Whoniverse!"
Yasmin's character shares the name with the character played by Billie Piper between 2005 and 2013, however it has not yet been revealed how, if at all, the two characters are linked.
This exciting news comes in the month that Ncuti Gatwa was announced as the 14th Doctor Who, and David Tennant and Catherine Tate have been announced to also return for the 60th anniversary of the show.
In Heartstopper, Yasmin appeared as trans student Elle, who was struggling to make friends after moving from a boys school to a girls school, eventually making friends with Tara and Darcy.
