When Gogglebox first hit our TV screens back in 2013, nobody quite expected how entertaining watching other people watch TV would be, but it has become a very popular show on Channel 4.

With people such as Scarlett Moffatt, June and Leon, Christopher and Stephen, The Siddiqui family and The Andrews all appearing on the show over the last five years, fans have grown to love their hilarious commentary.

But as the new series is due to start, one original Gogglebox star has revealed he's decided to quit the show!

Hairdresser Chris Butland-Steed, who has appeared on the show with his best friend Stephen Webb since series one, has announced he's leaving the show and will be replaced by Stephen's mum Pat.

Taking to Twitter to announce the news, Chris wrote, 'After 10 series, a wedding, and a helluva lot of takeaways, our lovely dogs and I have decided it's time to say a very fond farewell to our Gogglebox family.'

'I've loved every minute of being on the show and will never forget all the amazing things it's allowed me to do. Since my wedding, it's felt like there should be a new start, so I'm taking the plunge to see what's out there!'

He then added, 'I'm really looking forward to what the future holds, especially pursuing a career in TV, as I hope to show viewers that I have many more talents. So watch this space! First and foremost, I'd like to thank the fans for their love and support (and selfies!)... and of course Stephen. I wish him and Mummy Pat all the very best on the show and I look forward to watching them every week.'.

Fans were quick to wish Chris the best in the future, admitting they think he is the 'perfect double act' alongside his best friend Stephen.

Last month, Gogglebox won a National Television Award for Factual Entertainment Programme.

Many of the cast attended the prestigious awards bash, including the likes of June Bernicoff, despite the tragic passing of her husband Leon in December.

Bosses of the show have been teasing fans with various countdowns for the new series which begins this evening. Earlier in the week, the official Gogglebox Twitter account shared a photo of Stephen and his mum Pat preparing for the new series.

The brand new series of Gogglebox returns to Channel 4 tonight (Friday 23rd February) at 9pm.
