Sam Smith: I would give my Grammy to Beyonce
He'll hand his Grammy to Queen Bey
Sam Smith has revealed that if he wins a Grammy Award for Album of The Year at next month’s ceremony, he’ll hand it over to Beyonce.
Both artists are nominated for six gongs at the prestigious event, with the 22-year-old also up for categories such as Best New Artist, Song of the Year and Best Solo Performance.
However the 'Stay With Me' singer believes Queen Bey should take top spot for the Album of Year, with her self-titled project.
“She deserves it way more than I do,” he explained to Rolling Stone. “I’d be embarrassed if I got it over her. If I got it, I’d give it to her.”
The pop singer also opened up about his troubled past in the magazine, admitting that he went through years of bullying over his sexuality, including taunts while walking through his hometown.
“I was just embarrassed that my dad had to see that, because I could only imagine how you feel as a parent,” he explained.
He continued: “You just want to kill them. I was always embarrassed for people around me. But it actually never deeply affected me, you know?”
Sam Smith has also picked up five nominations at next month’s Brit Awards and is set to perform at the prestigious event.
