Louis Tomlinson Fails To Raise £2m For Rovers

One Direction's Louis Tomlinson has failed to raise the £2m he claimed was needed to improve his beloved Doncaster Rovers.

Sky News reports that fewer than 700 people pledged cash in a crowdfunding effort launched by Tomlinson to create a supporters' trust with a 5% stake in the club.

Fans were asked to contribute to the scheme when Tomlinson and former club chairman John Ryan were announced as Doncaster Rovers' new owners last month.

Because the total was not reached within a month, the fund's rules mean none of the £757,796 pledged will have to be paid - including £500,000 promised by the pop star and Mr Ryan.

The teenage heartthrob wanted supporters to pay at least £10 for an emailed video clip of him saying thank you or upwards of £12,000 to meet him in a VIP box at the club's Keepmoat Stadium.

Although the higher value items sold out, including a £10,000 pledge in exchange for a five-a-side match against the star, many of his young fans were frozen out of the scheme by a minimum bidding age of 18.

And it seems Tomlinson's rich bandmates - Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Zayn Malik and Niall Horan - failed to get their chequebooks out for the cause.
