Lady Gaga has called on her millions of Little Monsters to support Justin Bieber’s fans following the singer’s arrest yesterday (23rd January).

!Bieber was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, resisting arrest, speeding and driving with an expired licence and after he was caught allegedly racing his rapper friend Khalil in a yellow Lamborghini.

The 19-year-old ‘Baby’ singer was later released on police bail at $2,500 (£1,500).

The incident prompted a backlash against Bieber and his loyal Beliebers on social media – however Gaga has called for some calm.

In a post on her official website, Mother Monster wrote: "Hey monsters. I know everyone today is taking about Justin's arrest and all sorts of words and judgments are happening on the Internet.

"Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and to stand up for themselves, but I think we should be supportive of Beliebers. They deserve, just like any other fan, to feel strong for each other and Justin so they can continue to share the bond they have through music.

"We may not understand everything celebrities do because there's only so much we see, but Justin and Beliebers were 'born this way' too.

"Let's spread love and compassion to Beliebers today. That is what we are all about. Can you trend #MonstersSupportBeliebers?"

Last night Justin Bieber’s manager Scooter Braun said to his protégé on Twitter: “@justinbieber love you and i will act in the manner of someone who truly cares. that is all I have to say. thanks for all those concerned.”

He later added: "Been a long day. Bottom line is we are defined by how we handle adversity. Be there when it counts. Love fully in good times and bad."

Bieber’s arrest came a week after police reportedly searched Bieber’s home in Calabasas, California following an alleged dispute with a neighbour.
