Freya Ridings has shared the meaning behind her second album, 'Blood Orange.' The 29-year-old singer's album is out now and includes tracks such as 'Weekends' and 'Can I Jump?' Freya rose to fame with her huge hit 'Lost Without You' and will be performing at Hits Live Liverpool on 26th May.
Speaking to Fleur, James and Matt on Hits Radio, Freya shared the emotional meaning behind her new album, as well as expressing her excitement for Hits Live and sharing her love for Taylor Swift.
Explaining the story behind 'Blood Orange', Freya said: "It's kind of like a tale of the last three years of my life. I went from being very, very heartbroken and alone when I started writing it - which was 'Weekends'. And then the transformation of growth and coming into myself, building myself up and then falling in love and the fear and overcoming it that it took to get over that and the joy and euphoria.
"The internal growth you go through from your early to mid to late twenties, it's about those years in the soil, those years of pain and hardship. It's about getting through the inner growth, the Zoom therapy it takes to get through those break-ups and grow as a person.
"The first half is very bitter and lonely and the second half is very joyful and sweet. So it's kind of got two halves of the orange - the bitter and the sweet. It happened by accident, I wanted to call it 'Blood Orange' before that even happened, so I think it kind of manifested into the album."
Freya will be taking to the stage at a sold-out Hits Live Liverpool this month - something she is very much looking forward to. She added: "I'm so excited to be coming back to Hits Live. This was one of my favourite shows we ever did in 2019. I just loved it, it was incredible.
"I remember RAYE was on before me and I'd never seen a girl sing like that. It blew my mind. I remember being like: 'That was the most incredible thing I've ever seen, I'm her biggest fan now.' And then bumping into people backstage, it was just so much fun. I loved it."
Freya is a huge fan of many incredible women in the music industry, including RAYE, Gabrielle Aplin and Taylor Swift. Like many of us, Freya has been enjoying watching videos of Taylor's Eras tour online and is keen to get her hands on tickets to the show.
She said: "I've been the biggest Swiftie my entire life, I just love her so much. Like all of us, I feel like she just inspired us so much growing up. Watching someone five or six years older than you, it's so inspirational
"I would love to see that show when it comes to town. I just genuinely love Taylor Swift so much, I'm fangirling so hard!"
