Zayn Malik has taken another dig at his former band, One Direction, claiming he became ‘frustrated by the band.’

Since sensationally quitting 1D last March, Zayn hasn’t shied away from any controversy involving his former band mates and now in a recent interview, Zayn has taken another swipe at the group's sound.

In an interview with Complex magazine, Zayn said, “It was about denying the authenticity of who I was, and what I enjoyed about music, and why I got into it. That was something that was always underlying, and ended up as the main factor of me leaving in the end.”

The ‘Pillowtalk’ singer then went on to say “That was always there. It was one of the things that wasn’t going to go away, so I had to go away, I was frustrated by the band.”

The 23-year-old also confessed “It’s nice to have the chance to speak, now I get to talk about what I’m passionate about.”

Zayn also opened up about the romance on everybody’s lips, explaining he is doing his best to maintain a normal relationship with his model girlfriend, Gigi Hadid. He explained “I try to keep the two very separate. I try to, as much as I can. But there’s only so much you can do.”

Although the pair put on a rather steamy display in Zayn’s debut solo video for ‘Pillowtalk’, the singer has now insisted the hot couple were not putting on a show claiming “We were just messing around, it wasn’t even, like, part of the shoot.”
