Taylor Swift given country music award by her cancer-stricken mum
Andrea pays tribute to her superstar daughter
It was a highly emotional and proud evening for both Taylor Swift and her mum Andrea at the Academy of Country Music Awards in Texas last night (19th April).
To mark the 50th anniversary of the event, Taylor was awarded the prestigious American Country Music Milestone honour for her services to music.
Adding extra gravitas to the worthy win, Taylor was given the award by her 57-year-old mum Andrea who was recently diagnosed with cancer.
Andrea used the platform to give a tear-inducing dedication to her daughter.
Visibly gripped by emotion, Andrea said: “I’ve seen music carry her through every emotion…good or bad.
“For many years I was her constant companion. I witnessed a girl with very few friends become one with many, learning to stand up for the things she believes in. Being brave enough to explore her musical curiosity…Giving herself to those in need.”
"I am a very proud mom,” Andrea added. “I thank the entire music community for taking such good care of her. And to the fans, I know you love her as I love her. And for that, I thank you eternally.”
In her acceptance speech, Taylor thanked both her parents and also tipped her hat to the country music scene from which she has come from.
Taylor said: "To the country music community, when I told you that I had made a pop album and that I wanted to go explore other genres, you showed me who you are with the grace that you accepted that with. I will never forget it."
George Strait, Miranda Lambert, Garth Brooks, Kenny Chesney, Reba and Brooks & Dunn were also honoured with the milestone award.
