Strictly fans call for Will Young to be replaced by Tameka Empson

Will quit the show on personal grounds

When it emerged Will Young had quit Strictly Come Dancing for 'personal reasons’, many viewers of the show called for him to be replaced by a former contestant Tameka Empson.

Viewers of the show tweeted in force last night and even started the hashtag '#BringBackTameka'.

Despite this, it seems it's bad news for the eliminated EastEnders actress as bosses have reportedly revealed nobody will be making a return.

A spokesperson for the show said, "The series will continue as planned with an elimination every week until the grand final. The previous eliminated contestants will not be returning to the competition.”

Former Pop Idol winner Will Young sensationally quit the show citing 'personal reasons'. The 37-year-old, who was one of the favourites to win the show, released the following statement:

"To be a part of Strictly has been a long-time ambition of mine. As a performer, a viewer, and a fan of the show, to dance as a contestant was an experience I always hoped for.

"I have made some great friends, and am in awe of their performances week in, week out. I have found a creative partnership with Karen that has been the most wonderful thing to experience.

"Unfortunately, I am leaving the show for personal reasons. I leave with joy in my heart that I have been able to take part in one of the most loved shows on British television."

Will’s professional dance partner Karen Clifton has now spoken about the departure. Taking to Twitter she wrote, 'I'm so sad that Will has decided to quit the show and I know it wasn't an easy decision for him.’

She later added, 'It was great dancing with him, he was such fun to work with and I wish him all the very best for the future'.

Viewers of the popular dancing show witnessed Will and Karen perform the salsa to Bollywood track 'Jai Ho' last weekend, however it wasn't without any drama.

As Will stood before the judges, head judge Len Goodman told the pair he didn't feel there was enough salsa in the performance.

Clearly angered by the comment after his hard work, Will retaliated telling Len his routine carried 24 counts of eight steps, the number needed for the dance.

Len then awkwardly told Will, ”Show up, keep up and shut up", leaving viewers feeling uncomfortable.

Despite Will's exit, the show continues to air every weekend throughout October and November.
