The film finally hits UK cinemas

Seth Rogen and James Franco’s comedy about North Korea has been released on over 200 screens across the country today (Friday 6th February).

The controversial film was initially pulled in the US due to a massive cyber-attack on Sony, but was later made available through online streaming sites and limited cinema screens.

However Sony has taken a tentative approach to the film’s release in the UK.

There have been no pre-screenings or copies sent out to UK critics. There have also been no interview opportunities with the cast and notably both James Franco and Seth Rogan have remained out of the spotlight.

Speaking recently at Sundance festival in New York, Franco said: “There was this pressure. There was so much attention on the film – attention on a level you never expected. It was a shock to my system, and I got sick.”

Since the film was made available to purchase via on-demand services, it has been downloaded 4.3 million times and has taken £26m from digital sales and £3.9m from cinema takings in the US.
