Princess Beatrice cuts Ed Sheeran's face when sword prank goes wrong
He needed hospital treatment
Ed Sheeran was taken to hospital after a prank went wrong according to reports in a national newspaper.
The 'Thinking Out Loud' singer was at a Windsor Royal Lodge party with his girlfriend Cherry Seaborn, where James Blunt (who was also a guest) joked he would love to become a sir.
Princess Beatrice then grabbed a ceremonial sword at the exclusive party in order to conduct a mock knighthood ceremony.
After resting the sword on James' shoulder she said, "Arise Sir James", however according to a source, "instead of lightly tapping him on the shoulder, she swung it back, not knowing Ed was standing right behind her."
Ed was unfortunately on the receiving end of the blade and suffered a wound under his right eye which needed hospital treatment.
After a short trip to the hospital where the wound required stitches Ed and Cherry rejoined the party.
However the source said it could have been a lot worse.
"The blade cut into his face and it was just a few inches from his right eye. A couple of the guests said it could have been worse and he could have been blinded in the eye but Ed really played it down," they said.
"Everyone was totally shocked and apparently Beatrice was very upset, but Ed was the perfect gentleman and told her it was just an accident."
The party took place earlier this month, but recently photos of the cut have been posted online leading fans to speculate as to its cause.
